Sharp AQUOS phones are split between Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets, and the flashing tool depends on which one you have — get this right first:

  • Qualcomm AQUOS (e.g. the AQUOS R / R2 / zero series) → QFIL in EDL (9008) mode.
  • MediaTek AQUOS (some Sense / budget models) → SP Flash Tool with a scatter file.

Check your exact model’s chipset before downloading anything.

Before you start

  • Back up your data — flashing wipes the phone.
  • Install the matching USB drivers (guide).
  • Use the ROM for your exact model and carrier — Japanese carrier variants (SoftBank/au/docomo) need their own firmware.

How to flash

  • Qualcomm AQUOS: in QFIL, load the firehose + rawprogram XMLs, enter EDL (9008) mode, click Download, wait for success.
  • MediaTek AQUOS: in SP Flash Tool, load the scatter, choose Download Only, connect the powered-off phone, wait for the green check.

Common problems

  • Phone not detected: you’re likely using the wrong-chipset tool — re-check Qualcomm vs MediaTek.
  • Flash fails part-way: the firmware doesn’t match your model/region.
