If your phone is frozen, stuck in a boot loop, riddled with malware, or you are about to sell it, a Honor 200 hard reset wipes everything and returns the device to its out-of-the-box state. The Honor 200 runs MagicOS 8.0 on top of Android 14, so the menus and button behaviour are specific to that software. This guide covers both the in-software factory reset and the hardware Recovery method, plus the one thing that catches most people out afterwards: the Google FRP lock.
When you need a hard reset
A reset is the right tool in a handful of situations rather than as a first response to every glitch. Consider it when:
- The phone keeps freezing, crashing, or restarting on its own and a normal reboot does not help.
- You forgot the lock screen PIN, pattern, or password and cannot get in.
- Performance has degraded badly after months of use and you want a clean slate.
- You are selling, trading in, or giving away the device and need to erase your data.
- An update or app left the system unstable and you want to start fresh.

Before you start
A factory reset is permanent. Once it completes, photos, messages, contacts, and apps are gone, so prepare first:
- Charge the battery to at least 50 percent, or keep the phone plugged in. A reset that loses power partway through can corrupt the system.

- Know your Google login. After the reset you will need the Google account that was already signed in on the phone (more on this below).
Method 1 – factory reset from Settings
This is the easiest way to perform a Honor 200 hard reset when you can still unlock the phone and reach the menus. On MagicOS 8.0 the path is:
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap System & updates.
- Tap Reset.
- Choose Reset phone (this is the full factory reset; “Reset network settings” and “Reset all settings” do not erase your data).
- Read the warning, tap Reset phone again, and enter your lock screen password if prompted.
- Confirm. The phone wipes itself and reboots into the setup wizard.
This method signs you out of accounts cleanly, which is the recommended route before selling because it helps clear the anti-theft lock.
Method 2 – hard reset from Recovery
Use Recovery mode when the phone will not boot normally or you are locked out. The Honor 200 uses the standard volume-up combination:
- Power the phone off completely. Hold the Power button, tap Power off, and wait for the screen to go dark.
- Press and hold Volume Up + Power together.
- When the Honor logo appears, release the Power button but keep holding Volume Up until the recovery screen loads.
- Use the volume keys to move and the power key to select. Choose Factory reset / Wipe data.
- Confirm the wipe. When it finishes, select Reboot.
If the keys do not respond, make sure the phone is fully off first and that you are holding the buttons firmly before the logo appears. Plugging into a charger can help if the battery is very low. If you ever plan to connect the Honor 200 to a computer for further servicing, you may also need the correct Android USB drivers.
A note on the Google FRP lock
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is an Android anti-theft feature. After any wipe, the Honor 200 will ask you to sign in with a Google account that was already on the device before the reset. If you do not know that account’s credentials, you will be locked out during setup, even with a clean wipe. To avoid this, remove your Google account before resetting (Settings, then your account, then remove it) and sign out of your Honor ID. Frequently asked questions
Will a hard reset remove the Google FRP lock on the Honor 200?
No. A factory reset wipes your data but does not bypass FRP. The phone will still demand the previously linked Google account at setup. Remove the account before resetting to avoid being locked out.
Does a Honor 200 hard reset delete everything on the SD card?
The Honor 200 uses internal storage only and has no microSD slot, so the reset erases all internal data. Anything synced to your Honor ID or Google account can be restored after you sign back in.
How long does the reset take?
