The Google Pixel 9 runs stock Android, so resets are clean and simple. A hard reset (factory reset) wipes the phone to its out-of-the-box state — useful for a forgotten lock screen, persistent bugs, or before selling. Use Settings if you can unlock it, or Recovery if you can’t.
Before you start
- Back up your data — a reset erases everything.
- Know your Google account; the Pixel asks for it after a reset (FRP).
- Charge to at least 30%.
Method 1 — factory reset from Settings
- Open Settings → System → Reset options.
- Tap Erase all data (factory reset).
- Tap Erase all data, enter your PIN if asked, and confirm.
Method 2 — hard reset from Recovery (if you’re locked out)
- Power the phone off.
- Hold Power + Volume Down to enter the bootloader.
- Press Volume Down until Recovery mode is highlighted, then press Power.
- If you see “No command”, hold Power and tap Volume Up once to open the menu.
- Select Wipe data/factory reset, confirm, then reboot.
Important: Google (FRP) lock
After the reset, the Pixel 9 asks for the last Google account that was signed in. Have those credentials ready. See our hard reset any Android guide for more.
FAQ
Will a reset fix software glitches?
