The Vivo V40 runs Funtouch OS on Android. A hard reset (factory reset) returns it to factory settings — the standard fix for a forgotten lock screen, a frozen or laggy phone, or before you sell it. Use Settings if the phone unlocks, or Recovery if you’re locked out.
Before you start
- Back up your data — everything will be erased.
- Know the Google account on the phone; it’s required after a reset (FRP).
- Charge to at least 30%.
Method 1 — factory reset from Settings
- Open Settings → System management (or System) → Back up and reset.
- Tap Erase all data (Factory data reset).
- Enter your PIN if asked, then confirm.
Method 2 — hard reset from Recovery (if you’re locked out)
- Power the phone off.
- Hold Volume Up + Power until the phone boots into Recovery, then release.
- Select Wipe data (use volume to move, power to select).
- Confirm, then choose Reboot.
Important: Google (FRP) lock
After the reset, the V40 asks for the last Google account that was signed in. Have those credentials ready, or you can be locked out. See our hard reset any Android guide for details.
FAQ
Will a reset speed up the phone?
Usually yes — it clears clutter and apps that cause lag or battery drain.
Does it remove the screen lock?
Yes, but the previous Google account is still needed to set the phone up again.
